Yesterday on Twitter there was a conversation about drivers parking on the shoulder for their 30 minute break. It was suggested that they have no choice because of the ELD. This indicates they were violating their logs before the ELD came around and it also shows poor planning. Look, no matter what, do not blame your poor safety choices on the ELD. We all like to hate on it (except me) but if you choose to do something unsafe that's on you. Don't blame the government, the ELD, the FMCSA, moonspots or anything else. You cannot park on the shoulder for your break, period. Is there a lack of parking? YES. Still, you cannot park on the shoulder unless you are broke down. I see drivers peeing on the shoulder as well. Along with this being GROSS and unprofessional as you can be, its unsafe. If I had trucks and a driver of mine parked on the shoulder, I'd fire them immediately. Always be safe no matter what. You know that break is coming up. Plan accordingly. Don't blame anyone or anything for your unsafe acts but you.
See you on the road!

AuthorHi! Welcome. I'm Mark and I've been a professional truck driver for over 33 years, the last 19 years at the same company. It is time that drivers got paid for every minute that we work and we are treated like the licensed professionals we are. Archives
